In order to be trusted you have to keep your word...

Village idiot who trashes treaties Governments and nations exist due to systems of laws and agreements.  These covenants are the codified record of our trusted obligations, a method of defining our relationships, guiding our actions, and delineating intersecting areas of national self-interests.  The US has joined treaties and accords with other nations in an effort to promote stability, peace, and the general welfare of our citizens as well as the citizens of those nations.

The founders of our nation realized the importance of US treaties and codified this by the so-called "Supremacy Clause" of the US Constitution.  The President and government of the US is bound by Constitutional Law to abide by all treaties, as they are considered to be part of the "supreme law of the land". US Constitution, Article VI, paragraph 2.

The Bush Administration has taken a novel approach to treaties.  That approach is that any treaty the US has ever signed will be subject to the current whims and interests of the Bush Administration and can be unilaterally ignored, twisted, or trashed at any time.  Dubya's view of treaties is strictly in the context of his own self-interests which he often confuses with the nation's self-interests.

This section of StopDubya.com is dedicated to the discussion of the treaties, accords, and covenants that have been trashed by the Bush Administration.  You may see a pattern develop as you peruse these pages.   Each one of these examples has the economic and/or political interests of Dubya and his "constituency" at its root.  In short, greed.

The ABM Treaty, the Kyoto Accord, Geneva Conventions, Torture Convention, Peaceful Use of Space, Biological Weapons treaty, Land Mines, International Criminial Court- the list goes on and on.  In the following weeks these pages will be further developed to show just how much difference there is between Dubya's self-interests and those of the rest of humanity.

The Bushie Bandito declares.... "We don't need no steeeeenkin' treaties."
