DUBYA'S
POW POLICY: SHAME OF THE NATION
The illegal torture of Afghani and Iraqi detainees, in some
cases to the point of death, has finally hit the mainstream media accompanied by
the release of photographic proof. This has come as a shock to many Americans
who have been drifting along in a complacent dream of denial. However, reports
of abuse from the Afghanistan campaign and Guantanamo have been circulating in
the underground media for over a year.
Dubya’s
reaction to this debacle was inappropriate and slow. In fact, it took him days
before he told the king of Jordan that he was sorry; Bush never really did
apologize directly to the Iraqis.
Instead, he has tried to pin the blame on a “few bad apples”
at the bottom of the chain of command. How absolutely typical of dubya to shuck
the blame, and what a shameful, dirty LIE. The facts are still coming out, but
stories over the last few days indicate that torture of prisoners was widespread
and direction came from the top. Reports say that military intelligence officers
and prison commanders were not only AWARE of what was happening, they ORDERED
the guards to “soften up” prisoners. Some are saying that these orders came from
the Pentagon.
In any
case, Donny Rumsfeld has taken “full responsibility” for what happened.
Certainly that responsibility should include losing his job.
