Bi-partisan Bill Introduced to Reverse Dubya's Anti-abortion Executive Order One of Dubya's first acts as President was to issue an executive order to withold US funds from foreign clinics that discuss abortion as an option with their patients. It looks like this gag rule is in trouble. Two Democrat Senators and five GOPER Senators are trying to get this overturned, using the same tactics that Dubya used to overturn Clinton's executive orders. This issue is important and I'll be watching it closely. North Slope Drilling Sham Exposed; Bush/Cheney Oil & Big Business Ties Blamed In a joint news conference March 22, the Democrat response to Dubya's "No energy-tough luck" attitude was introduced in a bill that comprehensively addresses the current shortage, conservation, and alternative energy sources. Five Democrat Senators were involved in presenting this bill: Byron Dorgan (ND), Tom Dachle (SD), Charles Schumer (NY), Jeff Bingaman (NM), and Patty Murray (WA). The Senators made it absolutely clear that the oil in the proposed drilling area in Alaska is estimated to be a 6 month supply that will take 10 years to develop. It is not a solution or even a reasonable part of a solution when you weigh in the environmental damage. Senator Patty Murray said what we all know already. Bush/Cheney are in bed with the oil business and any proposals they make will benefit the oil industry. She went on to explain that the Bush Administration's failure to act was costing 43,000 jobs in Washington State. Hmmm... Clinton/Gore CREATE jobs, Bush/Cheney DESTROY jobs. It was nice to hear a US Senator go on record with this issue. Yet Another School Shooting EARTH TO CONGRESS, EARTH TO CONGRESS. How many handgun murders will it take before we get some meaningful gun control action? Does it take somebody famous or influential to be killed? Don't common citizens have the right to feel safe in public places? Visit my Congress pages to get contact information on your Democrat Senators and Legislators. Union-busting, Anti-workplace Safety, Anti-environment, In Bed With Big Banking Does this sound like anyone you know? Dubya has frozen restrictions that prevented labor-law violators from getting government contracts, signed orders that could cut union political funds and boost non-union contractors on federal jobs, repealed the ergonomic guidelines developed by a 10 year study dating back to Elizabeth Dole, stopped the airline strike and vowed to stop any further strikes, reneged on his pledge to limit CO2, and said he will sign the new bankruptcy law that is a gift to credit card companies. (His biggest campaign contributor was MBNA America). Frankly, I'm amazed he's had time to regress our country so much when he only puts in 6 hour days. I would have thought he'd be keeping himself busy with the Faith-based initiative, phoney-baloney tax cut proposal, torpedoing campaign finance reform, pissing off the Russians and North Koreans, and bombing Iraq one more time for dear old Poppy. Oh, and then he has to clean up after gaffes by Powell, who called Jerusalem the capital of Israel. That's silly, Dubya said, everyone knows it's Egypt. Dubya's Tax Cut Lies Debunked Dubya is lying like a rug about his tax cut plan, which not only is welfare for the top 1%, it also doesn't add up. My new editorial explains why. U.S. Civil Rights Commission Condemns Florida Voting Barriers A majority of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission concluded Friday (3/9) that Florida's election last year was marred by ``significant and distressing'' barriers that discouraged qualified voters from casting ballots. The majority found that elections officials had failed to ensure adequate resources to handle a heavy voter turnout. Commissioners said an initial review of evidence showed that at least one unauthorized police checkpoint was set up near a polling place, that nonfelons were improperly removed from registration rolls and that many voters received defective and complicated ballots. They found that many blacks did not vote because they were assigned to polling sites that lacked adequate resources to confirm their eligibility. - WILLIAM E. GIBSON, KNIGHT RIDDER NEWS SERVICE Palm Beach County Post Reports Gore Win in Recount Had the recounts been allowed to continue, Gore would have picked up 784 votes which would have been enough to overcome Dubya's 537 vote lead as certified by Dubya's Florida campaign co-chair and Secretary of State Kate Harris. Complaint Filed to FEC Alledges Ashcroft Campaign Violations Allegations are that the PAC "Spirit of America" donated a mailing list of 100,000 potential contributers to Aschroft, exceeding the limit of $10,000 which they had previously donated. The donor list was developed by the PAC between 1997 and 1999 at a cost of $2 million. Ashcroft made $116,000 by renting the list to others. John Ashcrofts 2000 Senate campaign committee and the Spirit of America PAC engaged in direct and serious violations of federal campaign finance law, says Scott Harshbarger, president and CEO of Common Cause, one of the complaintants.
