US Must Temper Response With Reason (9/22/01) As the Bush Administration cranks up the rhetoric and readies the military for an unspecified campaign, I sincerely hope that calmer minds are prevailing in the decision making process. The US is a nation built on laws; we must not abandon our principles out of rage. We must react with reason, use a measured response, with the goal of bringing the persons responsible for terrorist attacks to justice rather than extracting vengeance for our own horrible losses. This approach is not only the American way, it is the ONLY way we will avoid a general war with all Islamic peoples. Any other approach will cast the US as an aggressor nation willing to kill indiscriminately to reach its goals. We do not want to get caught in a cycle of violence with Islamics as the Russians and Israelis have. I am extremely concerned about the role of the "Home Defense" cabinet position and how this will work to limit our personal freedoms. We must not let this situation snowball to the point where the government obtains the power to persecute individuals and interfere with their lives because of their race, religion, or political beliefs. Also, we must not allow this organization to contribute to American paranoia to consolidate more power. - Editor. We Offer Condolences To Victims, Their Families, and All Americans (9/21/01) No words can change what happened. The pain of this loss is unimaginable, unfathomable, and it touches us all in some way. We can only hope and pray that someday the hurt will fade away to a place where your fond memories of those lost will fill the void with love. Long live America. Long live Justice. Two Generations of Bush Foreign Policy Come Home To Roost (9/13/01) As America reels in shock from the worst terrorist attack in our history, questions about the motivation of the perpetrators are begging for answers. In order to frame those questions, we need to examine the points of contact between the US and the Islamic world to determine why enough hatred exists to cause such carnage. One of the major points of contact between the US and Arabs has been Iraq. The US, along with Britain and other allies, have been flying daily sorties over the so-called "no-fly zones", wide areas across the northern and southern thirds of Iraq. These flights have frequently led to bombing and strafing of Iraqi military installations. This activity has been continuing for nearly 10 years and is a direct result of Poppy's failure to remove Saddam Hussain from power at the close of the Gulf War. In the poker game of international politics, Poppy was holding a Royal Flush and chose to fold, settling for a cease-fire that left Saddam with an iron grip on the government of Iraq. The idea behind this failed strategy was to punish the Iraqis so they would get fed up with Saddam and throw him out of power through a general uprising. The effect, however, has been to devastate the Iraqi economy and feed the hatred of Arabs everywhere for the West. The other major point of contact is through our proxy in the region, Israel. During the Clinton Administration, a continuing effort was made to broker a peaceful solution to the Palestinian situation. Peace talks between the PLO and the Israeli government ended with Dubya's election. Dubya sent a member of the CIA to the region to act as an intermediary. The CIA is despised almost universally; this would be akin to the Russians sending the KGB to manage peace talks. The result has been a continuing escalation of the cycle of vengeance over the last 6 months. The Israelis are retaliating against terrorist attacks with state-sponsored assassinations and military excursions into Palestinian areas. This has resulted in further terrorist attacks... well, you get the picture. During this period Dubya has spent next to no time on any international issues other than getting our spy plane back from the Chinese, flipping off the Kyoto Accord, and trying to cram Son of Star Wars down everybody's throat. He said he came to Washington to work hard for the American people, but that didn't stop him from taking a month vacation where he reportedly watched animal dung float down his creek and listened to his cows talk. MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT... the attacks on American soil were the cowardly acts of terrorists who have perverted their religion to justify murder of innocent civilians. How the US reacts will determine whether we solve the problem or get caught in a vicious, bloody cycle of retaliation and vengeance. Dubya Lies Like a Dog About Stem Cell Lines It seemed like a reasonable compromise when Dubya announced his stem cell research funding policy on August 9. There was just one problem.... (9/5/01) The August 9th claim by Dubya that there are 64 viable stem cell lines worldwide so no more will be funded came as a surprise to the stem cell research community. In fact, the number 64 is as phony as Dubya's religious conversion and was fabricated by the National Institute of Health at the direction of the White House. Startled scientists from all over the world have come forth to tell us what they really have to offer. Goteburg University, Sweden was credited with 19 "robust and viable" lines, even though they told Tommy Thompson, Director of Health and Human Services, only one week earlier that only 3 had progressed beyond the "earliest, most tentative stages". CyThera, Inc., supposed to have the largest number of lines in the US (9), actually has nothing at this time. CEO Michael Ross said that what CyThera has are "derivations", which may or may not transform into stem cells. The truth of this matter is that Dubya was well aware of these problems when he made his announcement on August 9. What we have is the president knowingly lying to the American people to make public policy. (With reporting from NPR and Time Magazine). White House Admits Involvement in Torricelli Investigation "It is not a question for the White House to politically, for example, tell the Justice Department how to carry out their efforts so long as as they're carried out within the law." Ari "The Piehole" Fleischer, White House Mouthpiece (9/1/01) In an amazing display of double-speak and partisanship, the White House today attempted to justify its involvement in the investigation of Senator Robert Torricelli (D-N.J.) The admission is that Mindy Tucker, former Senior spokeswoman for the Bush campaign, sought a subpoena for the telephone records of AP reporter John Soloman. Soloman was leaked information that Torricelli's phone was tapped and ran the story May 4th. He has refused to reveal his source. The White House says it will continue to support this practice as long as Federal law is followed. However, Fleischer, master of twisted logic and contradiction, said "The president does not think it is a proper course of action for the White House to tell the Justice Department how to go about its investigations." The facts are simple and they speak for themselves. It is official policy for the White House to seek subpoenas when the subjects are members of the press. I can't help but wonder what other strings Dubya will pull in his effort to take back the Senate. CBO: Federal Government Will Dip Into Social Security Trust Fund READ MY LIPS, PART II: All Social Security funds in the surplus must stay where they belong dedicated to Social Security. ... For years, politicians in both parties have dipped into the trust fund to pay for more spending. And I will stop it. George Dubya Bush, May 2000. (8/28/01) Fiscal irresponsibility, demogoguery, fuzzy math, and baldface lies have come home to roost at the White House like a flock of albatross. 8 months into his term of office, Dubya has busted the Federal Budget and will have to raid the Social Security funds to avoid a budget deficit. The true irony of this is that less than a
year ago, 10/3/2000, during the first Here we are, 10 months later, long after the laughter from that lying wisecrack, facing the sober truth that the US economy is on the ropes and the White House is doing nothing but trying to spin its way out of the mess. Dubya's explanation of the smaller surplus calls it "a fiscal straightjacket for Congress. And that's good for the taxpayers, and it's incredibly positive news if you're worried about a federal government that has been growing at a dramatic pace over the past eight years." What a steaming load of crap. Watch out, folks, there's going to be a lot worse news coming. White House Admits There Is No Budget Surplus (8/23/01) In an extrodinary turn of events, the Bush Conflagration has admitted that the alledged "budget surplus" is GONE. Recent reports of a $160 billion surplus included excess Social Security revenue, which by law are earmarked for paydown of the national debt. The actual surplus projections released in Dubya's forecast are: 2001- $1 billion, 2002- $1 billion, 2003- $2 billion, and 2004- $6 billion. Note that these are billions. To the government, a billion dollars is like a fifty cent piece in your pocket. So, in other words, the people who promised you the moon during the last election cycle based on a projection of a $1.3 trillion surplus over the next 10 years were either completely naive or lying through their teeth. This budget has "DEFICIT" written all over it. If Dubya hadn't found an accounting loophole to transfer $4.3 billion from the Social Security Trust Fund to the general revenue, we would have a $3.3 billion deficit by HIS OWN NUMBERS. So now it will be interesting to see where Dubya goes to raid money for Son of Star Wars, the Faith-based Initiative, the First Fossil's Energy Fallacy, the Tax Loan plan, and all the rest of his Reverse Robin Hood plans where he robs from the poor to give to the rich. Dubya Gives Russians Ultimatum: Agree to Son Of Star Wars By November Or U.S. Will Dump ABM Treaty (8/23/01) John Bolton, US Undersecretary of State, passed a message to the Russians straight from the pie-hole of Dubya: "My way or the highway". If the Russians don't agree to Son of Star Wars by November, the US will give 6 months notice and unilaterally abrogate the 1972 ABM treaty. All of this is wrapped in doublespeak and gobbledygook that would make Big Brother proud. Bolton insisted this is not an ultimatum (hogwash.) He said that the US doesn't want to violate the treaty, so we will use our "right" to withdraw from the treaty, then proceed with Son of Star Wars, which, of course, IS a violation of the treaty. The legality of US "right of withdrawal" from the treaty is highly questionable. You may read the full text of the ABM treaty by clicking the link to the left, but Article 15 is included here to save you some time. Read the conditions for withdrawal below, highlighted in red:
What extraordinary events related to the subject matter of this treaty have jeopardized the US supreme interests? There's nothing there, folks. Dubya is turning us into a rogue nation. Website Features Entire Chronicle of Dubya's AWOL From The Texas National Guard (8/16/01) If you would like DEFINITIVE information about Dubya's miserable military service record (more like draft dodging if you ask me) check out http://www.awolbush.com/. I was going to try to put this together myself, but the webmaster has done such an excellent job that it would be senseless to try to duplicate his great effort. |
